Submit a review“Just a quick note: this tool has been great for importing 3D geometry that Revit can’t handle on its own. It’s easy to use and the results have been solid. Definitely worth a try!”
Benefits
Simplicity
Import complete external 3D models including materials into families or projects. A guided four-step wizard takes you from file to native Revit DirectShape geometry, with a bundled demo model to try the workflow instantly.
Intelligence
Reads units and up-axis straight from the file, shows bounds, mesh and triangle counts before anything is created, and sorts the imported geometry into materials that preserve the colour, transparency, and textures of the source model.
Performance
Highly performant import engine brings in thousands of faces in a matter of seconds — and accounts for every mesh, face, and material in an import summary.
Features
Formats
Imports the most used exchange formats directly: Wavefront OBJ, Collada DAE, glTF/GLB (including Draco-compressed), STL, Rhino 3DM, and FBX. FBX, STL, 3DM, and Draco require Revit 2025 or newer; on Revit 2015–2024 the importer supports OBJ, DAE, glTF, and GLB.
Materials
The imported objects get sorted by matching Revit materials, including the colour and transparency information — and on Revit 2025+, diffuse textures import as Revit appearance assets, so models render like the source.
Versatility
Works with Revit projects and Revit families. Choose the destination Revit category for each import, including Toposolid.
No Silent Loss
Every skipped mesh, dropped face, or defaulted unit is reported in the import summary with a copyable report — imports are diagnosable, never silently lossy.
Adaptability
Import units and up-axis are auto-detected from the file and adjustable, with automatic centering or manual insertion coordinates for each import.
Material Reassignment
Search, preview, and apply Revit materials to imported DirectShape geometry — including DirectShapes created by other workflows — for consistent, presentation-ready views.
